Domain name drop SEDO Buy it Now

it's worth remembering that many stolen domains are listed on popular marketplaces and that some of them do get sold.

Yes, stolen domains do get sold, but it's not the fault of Sedo or any other marketplace if the domain is sold on their site.

A thief steals a domain, changes the registrant details to theirs, sets nameservers to a marketplace and adds it to their marketplace account. It'll be verified as owned by them, as they can do self verification by changing the DNS record to add TXT and CNAME records, which shows they're in control of the domain, just like a real owner.

There's no way for a marketplace to know a domain is stolen, unless the real owner/someone else notices the domain listed for sale, and contacts them about it being stolen.

If that is true, then the only logical conclusion to draw is to NOT buy domains from such venues - which is what I would advise the op anyway.

As always, buyer beware!

There are ways to be proactive for large sales and find out if they're stolen before completing. It is a cop out to say 'there's nothing that can be done'.

Sedo does provide buyers with the year a seller became a user on sedo. So, in our case, it shows buyers we've been using sedo since 2003 and that we're a regular seller. If I was spending xxxxx on a premium .com I think I'd want to see that the seller hadn't just opened an account. Don't know what happened in this case though - and it might not always protect you from an unscrupulous person, but it is an additional check.

Getting back to the thread, I have bought another domain name as a replacement

i cant afford to wait around for other to drop.

If i don't manage to catch the domain myself then i will come back to AD to see if anyone has managed it.

Thanks

If it seems like its going to drop, nearer the time put a post asking for dropcatchers on here. You're better off getting as many goes as you can.You run the risk of someone else getting it and then asking more than the sedo current price if you contact them. Offer a budget if you like and anyone whos free will generally load it for you. You dont have to post the domain publicly
