I just sold a domain and now need to do the transfer, via Nominets online transfer system.

The problem is, I don't have all my domains in one account and it asks me for a username and password (which I don't have).

To get my identity details sent to me I need my confirmation letter (which I never receive) so I am stuck.

I found a workaround:

Create a new email address for the domain (any email address would do as long as it's not in the Nominet system already), but you need to be able to check this address for new messages.

Send a MODIFY request and change the primary email to that address (for the domain in question)

Go to this page:
https://secure.nominet.org.uk/auth/lost-password.html
and enter the email address and request a new password.

Now you can set a new password and use that along with the email address you used to log in and do the transfer.

An alternative is to QUERY the domain so it shows you the current email address / account ID and then reset the password for that email address.

Yes the problem for me there was that I had one Nom account per domain  and it expects a unique email address per account.

I am just doing a MERGE to tidy everything up but where I have domains regged in different versions of my first name, it doesn't allow me.

Is there a fix for that?

I'm pretty sure Nom will match the registrant names up if you ask them nicely, as long as they are similar.

Nom will make small changes quite quickly such as removing 'Mr' or changing caps to lower case so everything matches.

Just done a similar exercise myself. Trouble is, every new domain regd seems to create its own new account with Nom!

It will do if you are using an old style template to send the request.

Use the following:

PHP:
operation: request
key: mydomain .co.uk
account-id: xxxxxxx

Far too advanced for me Admin.
I reg with 123-REG, same email, same Registrant but Nom still prefers to set up a new account!?

That's the problem with the new system, if registrars don't use the account system and reg all domains to one user account it just becomes a total mess.

This is very frustrating... I think Nominet should have more involvement in policing how registrars register on behalf of customers... Surely there must be a huge overhead for Nominet having such a large quantity of new uneeded accounts being set up?
