listed

domains are listed after but no data about that domain is listed.

The idea of this site for people to get a 'rough' idea of what a domain they are thinking of registering or buying might be worth.

In fact its propbaly benficial if your a domain seller as you will get more exposure and more chance of selling your uk domains.

That doesn't matter, since it takes no effort for someone to re-enter the domain name.

Domain squatters could very easily save themselves the time of thinking of nice domain names, and just look for the ones other people are checking the value of. Yes, if you own the domain name it's not quite as bad, but I would heavily advise people from using this tool to check the value of unregistered domains. There are people who will buy domain names just because other people are looking at them.

It looks like you added in the ability for people to opt out of this before, which means you must have made the conscious decision to remove that feature. Couple that with the fact that you make absolutely no mention of this fact on the homepage and I'd say that you are in the wrong for doing this in a fairly big way.

Imo you should flush out the history, change it so people have to opt in to be included, and make it clear on the homepage that this data is in fact being collected and publicly displayed.

thanks for your points and I have taken them on board.

this site is for people to check the value of a domain. i'm not trying to hide the fact that the appraisals are available to view, and that i might get a commission if someone bought one that was at sedo (fat chance :( ) - but perhaps its not clear enough like you say.

If I give choice whether to opt in or out of the listing someone could just opt in - maybe I won't list them at all?

cheers

Tell you what... why not add in 3 radio buttons (the circles), and force them to select one... one is "I already own this domain", one is "I am thinking of buying this domain, someone else owns it", and the last is "I am thinking of registering this domain, it is available". If they select the last one, do not list it... but do offer them an affiliate link to register the name at either Sedo or GoDaddy or wherever, after the appraisal. You'll probably get more sales on new domains anyways, and that way no one can really get hurt.

Italic text on index page is difficult to read

font is too small on larger resolution screens.

The site seems to be quite low volume at the moment so I would not say it is a huge risk. Personally I would say it is more secure than using a normal WHOIS system where most .com 's are tasted to death anyway :)

That would solve the problem - quick 'I agree to the terms of use' before the submit button would ensure noone has any issues , and if they do its due to the user being a muppet :)
