Domains and keyword searches

Hey guys,

On my ever lasting quest to learn more and become a better domainer I have a question regarding search volumes and domains.

Say I do some research in Google adwords keyword tool and it says a term has 50k global searches. If i register that domain does it make any differences if its a .net (rather than the .com)

Is there any other tips and pointers you guys can give regarding domain keyword search and volumes etc?
