Hi, is there any value to a domain that has a - (hypen) in the name?

thinking some examples using generic names.

gardenpatios.co.uk
garden-patios.co.uk

(note just made this domain up)

If you have both examples would this resell value if offered together?

If unhyphenated is taken and has website and you have the hyphenated version?

If unhyphenated is taken and is for sale and you have the hyphenated version?

Have see two different sites running on both versions.

Would it be worth keeping hyphenated and use it catch passing traffic?

In general, don't bother with hyphenated domains.

Also, this kind of question would have been relevant about 8 years ago. It is way too late to think there are many valuable hyphenated domains out there.

Probably not for resale in most cases.

You can't reg a Trademark domain or other Intellectual Property term that is hyphenated if you don't have rights to it. For general generic domains there's no problem.

No grounds for dispute if it's a generic term.

In general I'd say prospects for .uk hyphenated domains, and hyphenated domains in general, are somewhat limited.

Focus on strong terms in strong extensions. Always think quality. Quality tends to do well, a bit like with antiques.

As a personal preference, I don't bother with hyphenated domains, domains with numbers in them, and .me.uk or .org.uk (unless it really should be a .org.uk domain, such as debthelp.org.uk [Not my domain, just an example)

I am a little more selective about what I buy now, and tend to buy less than I used to, mainly because this is more of a hobby for me than a business.
