Dropcatching times of day

Hi all,

I was wondering, when a domain name drops, does it drop at a random time throughout the day its due to drop on or does it drop at the same time it was registered 2 years + 92 days ago?

They drop randomly from midnight to midnight of the drop day.

Thats a pain, if it was the same time the name was registered, dropcatchers could plan their polling a bit better

The catcher wouldn't know what time of day the domain had been registered at, so they wouldn't be able to poll faster for it at a certain time.

True, but I wouldnt of thought many domain names were registered between 02:00 and 06:00 so you could use the extra DAC querys from then and use them later on in the day.

Domains do drop early morning and late night though, so slowing down the poll frequency during these times may not be beneficial.

I've seen a LLL drop in the last minute of the day.

True, but I wouldnt of thought many domain names were registered between 02:00 and 06:00 so you could use the extra DAC querys from then and use them later on in the day.

A lot of UK names are owned by people in the US/Australia/New Zealand to name a few.. so technically speaking they could be registered at Any time

I've seen a LLL drop in the last minute of the day.

lnc dropped at 01:41, so reducing poll frequency outside office hours would not have helped in this case.

So I can see that over 24 hours, the name drops are completely random to the fraction of the second.
