Dropping domain - best approach

Hi all

I recently received an email from [name]@typeit4u.com telling me that a variation of a domain I own is going to drop soon. He provided a link where I could 'register my interest' in the domain.

I've been reading a little about drop catching, and it looks like a pretty scary business.

I'm not sure whether I should respond to the email, or stay quiet and try to catch the drop.

What do you guys think?

Its spam/crap/scam.

Just delete it and register the name the old fashioned way (or get someone to catch it for you if its valuable)

That was definitely my instinct. I'll do it the proper way then!

Do you think it's better to employ a drop service for £££ or pay someone on Acorn Domains ££ to do it?

Try caught.co.uk or any of the others on here (whos names I forget right now) - they will have more of a chance of catching it over a 'public' catching service.

Well I won the auction using NameJet! Am dead chuffed!

I already own the .net version of the domain... I was wondering whether there would be any penalty in pointing the new .com to the same server. Would I get penalised for duplicate content?

It won't show as duplicate content if you do it correctly. When you park the .com on top of your .net just make sure you set up a 301 (permanent) redirect.
