Hi Guys,

OK here is the problem, I bought a copy of DRT which cost me $249.00 straight from there site https://www.domainresearchtool.com/buy.htm.

When I checked on the other laptop I found a link that was $49.00 cheaper, I think Acorn affiliate link?? so the total cost was $199.99 so I emailed support to ask if I could be refunded back the $49.99, which they said yes. No refund of $49.99 has turned up.

In the email I sent to him; I asked if he could supply or knew any good proxy sites, he recommended his own which was DRTProxy.com - Daily Free Proxy Lists, Domain Research Tool Proxies, D.R.T. Proxy List - Home and guess what... the DRT Software is even cheaper there only $129.00??

With so many prices going on I just wanted to make you aware that you could be throwing money away just like me.
Not sure what to do, should I just lump it or ask for it at $129.00 I dont have money just to throw away you see

Help!

You should ask for it at $129. If they refuse, you should, if payment made by CC, be able to charge them back or have the difference refunded.

Thanks for pointing it out db. I'm thinking of buying it.

You should ask for the cheaper price. I'm sure someone on here mentioned they know the developer so perhaps they can have a word.
Plus he should want to keep the acorners happy! :D

Yup dont pay over the odds ;)

I have not asked for money back cant be arsed with the hasssle :p

The developer is LUC who posts on this forum.

see http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/search.php?searchid=163964

I emailed him a while back when I was thinking of buying (which I eventually did) and found him very helpful.

Since Stender is thinking of buying the DRT I thought I should put my experience of it to date on record.

I bought it about a month ago (for $129.99) and it hasn't been all that great. I mainly wanted it for Overture searches but:

a) Alive proxies are hard to find and take a long time to scan
b) Even with 100+ alive proxies it scans very slowly (about 200 names an hour) as each name usually has to be checked a few times before an Overture score is returned. (And after scanning a couple of hundred names you usually need to find new proxies.)
c) Things seem to be getting worse; i.e. proxies less reliable and searches slower.

I emailed their support team about this but didn't get a reply. Luc did give me one reply and said that he's working on using cached Overture results so there's no need for proxies. However, 3 weeks ago he said this feature would be ready in about a week and it's not ready yet. Personally, I don't really think this will solve the difficulties anyway.

I'm also having problems with the bulk Alexa feature (often tells me domains have 0 traffic rank when they don't) and the Yahoo and Google link popularity checkers (they are also very slow).

Maybe others have it working well. But in my view anyone thinking of splashing out on it should make sure they download the trial version and use it test large numbers of names, not just a few, before they buy.

I agree that it appears to have gone downhill overture wise over the last month or so. In my opinion it looks like overture has been throttled even more than it used to be, 9 times out of 10 I struggle to actually get on the overture site and do a manual search without it timing out.

Aah it's not just me then! I regularly have to refresh the page 3 or 4 times to get anywhere.:(

My programme has stopped working anyone else getting an update box comming up and trying to update, then when it cant it shuts the programme down?

DB,

That's exactly what's happned to mine. I mailed Luc and he told me he doesn't know why that has happened but I should re-install. I havent re-installed yet as I dont know where my license key is as I bought it a couple of years ago.

It is the update that causes the problem (happened before on a previous update) Just uninstall it and reinstall FROM the DRT website which will be the latest version (ie doesn't need to run the problem update) and all OK again.

Start DRT go to "help/about" it will display license key.
If tries to update before you get the chance to see it, temporary disconnect internet connection should give you enough time.

Thanks Dave. Working fine now.

Actually it is not working fine since it is misleading. I don't know which month "cache" database is getting its results but for example for freetranslations.co.uk Live cache gives 0 but it is 30 for May 2007, a domain which was caught by one of the TAG of the grantfather of the niece of a stock market trader.

Yep

I agree with the comments about the OVT cache database - go with the Live OVT database and use Proxies.

Cheers
