One for the SEO pros out there

IS having dynamic content on a site home page a bad idea - should your home page always be an HTM or HTML extension or is ASP ok?

For SEO, it shouldn't really matter how your homepage is built too much, because the homepage usually isn't a whole dynamic page.

Most of the sites I play with, have dynamic content, but don't appear that way to the viewer, and do reasonably well (considering they are not optimised or have much effort put into them).

Changing content on your homepage is good from a visitor and SE spider perspective, it keeps both coming back.

ASP pages are not penalised as far as I know at there is a rumor that MSN Search engine actually favours them.

SEO Active Server pages and dynamic URLs

Charlie,

A major point to consider for good SEO is removing query strings from dynamic URLs. We did this on the forum and our Google indexing rocketed, we now have over 20,000 links from the site in Google:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&q=site:acorndomains.co.uk

With Active Server Pages, most search engines will index .asp pages if the "?" is removed from the URL. There are products that will will automatically remove the query strings from your .asp pages and replace them with "/" marks.

Site is still underconstruction - but thanks for all you help I will keep all those points in mind as I develop.

Will let you see the site when its off my development server.

Impressive change of results for the google indexing i will have a play and see if i can achieve similar results
