Nice watching this one on its 'Substantial' bid jumps - Great suppliers name.

Almost make the "Buy it now price" realistic

That's a nice purchase at £5k, I honestly didn't expect it to reach that amount at DL.

Given the market size I would have thought better to leave open to the market - but still a nice sale

wish I'd have caught it also hopefully mine will get a little last minute action now

Always the way now on DL, Give it the 5 day eyeballs and bloody well make sure it doesn't have a pre midday finish (which is still a mistake some make)

Am I the only one who thinks that this domain sold for way to much?

Great deal for the seller.

Please tell me what they are going to achieve with this name..Take on the big online retailers? If the buyer was a big one in selling online, use it in their advertisement campaigns?

As I said, a great sale for the seller but I can't see why this would be a good buy for anyone.

Please enlighten me :)

Please enlighten me :)

OK - I'll give it a Go

Electrical fitters are mostly (if not all) self-employed, Sure they work on contract from time-to-time. But, their money is in PJ's (private jobs) A good electrical supplier online is a Godsend to them (No bitching about 100's of units minimum) they want to be able to go to a next day reliable supplier ( And yes they do know the part Number -That's why they are Qualified Electricians)

'Electrical/s' says something to 'Electricians' that, I accept domainers may miss.

Domainers, Sadly they miss most things that don't hit them directly on the head (In terms of exacts etc)

Ok, I must have missed that, must have been my poor English.

But when I check the ftr domains there are a number of domains still available:

Electricalfitters.com/org.uk
Electricalfitter.co.uk/org/uk

So why splash out on a domain like this? To turn it into a directory? I am pretty sure that most of the self employed electricians know where to go for leads and I bet that it would be hard to convert all of them to this domain.

I vaguely remember hearing the voice of Phil Spencer in some tv ads when I was living in the uk, I am sure that is the place to go for any tradesman if he needs some work.. Not Electricals-co-uk ( which actually sounds really bad in any tv or radio commercial ) but that must be my way of saying it.

Electrical/s defines a 'Supply' (their HARDWARE requirements) it's what Electricians would refer to as their tools of trade.

Your not going to reinvent a need or association with other terms Prodomains

Personally I don't get it and the sum paid. Perhaps an end user bought it, then again a domainer was pushing it up all the way.

I part own an electrical installation company (industrial and educational, perhaps the guys do a little private work on the their own time, IDK) and this name leaves me very cold indeed.

No problem with each of our own interpretations, it's actually what leaves the domain field wide open - I'm Happy to be in the minority of 'Domainers mind-share' with all my investments. (I'd be long fuc**d otherwise)

As you say Lee - your a corporate bod. Would I have paid 5K for the domain - NO Chance, but I somehow doubt it was just a bidding war that took it to £5k - yep I too have loads of electrician friends that's how I knew the term recognition.

Interesting that the top Google searches "Word"

Elecricals4less
Electricalsdirect
Electrical123

Guess they wouldn't want to know 'electricals.co.uk' as a sensible/valued buy (Marketing proposition) either

If I'm reading you correctly I think you expose the reality that people in trades don't see the value in short descriptive easy recall domains relating to their businesses.

As for price, I think you would probably have to pay the sale price as a monthly payment to lease the singular.

I think that many people at the coal face dont really give two sh1ts what a domain is. They know their local supplier or they know where they get the cheapest deals or the best customer service. They dont give a toss about a fancy domain name.

I work with 1200 electrical installation companies and can say that "Electricals" is not a term they use to describe components. I accept that some people may use it (although I suspect that is very low) but it's far more associated with electrical appliances than it is with "Electrical Components".

Let's look at RS Components, a large supplier. They do not even have the word electricals in their extensive list of keywords on their homepage - that tells you a great deal. Also looked at Rapid and they don't either... (also, partsmaster - the currys owned parts company that does not really serve the trade but importantly has parts for most things including appliances - does not mention that word on their homepage).

I often agree with Bailey, but tend not to post much, but on this occassion he is so off the mark (imo) that I had to "correct" the assertion.

It was owned by Comet previously I think. They use the word Electrical extensively in their advertising - I assume it was a term they coined to mean anything from a gadget to a cooker. If you search the term on Googles seems like all the big retailers are using the phrase. No idea if that makes the domain worth 5k.

Stephen.

I can't remember the previous Registrant (Comet) ever using the name?
Most electricians use a combination of local wholesalers and B&Q Trade counter, but I have never heard them say they were going to get their electricals! They get parts, bits, supplies, spares, tools, kit........
I often disagree with bailey, but, er, well that's it really. :)
(agree with you from time to time, though Ray!)
Regards
Bruce
