I've been having problems with my main Zycon mail server lately - some emails can take up to 5 days to reach my inbox - anyone else ever had this problem?

After investigating, normal emails are arriving within seconds as you would expect but those generated on my site from a contact form (Perl script) are taking between 15 hours and 5 days to arrive...

Anyone any ideas on what could cause this behaviour?

I suppose it's how the outbound SMTP is prioritised. I have had this type of thing many times and the lesson I learned is never to use the mail system on your own server. I always change MX records for any domain I host so that the email address is one that I know will be delivered immediately.

You could be triggering the greylisting feature in the mail server's spam filtering and your messages get popped back on the queue for a later retry. Check the mail headers to see if there are any clues or the mail logs (assuming you have a dedicated or VPS)
