I have an email problem.

Im using a clean domain (not been used for email for about 8years), trying to avoid certain keywords to avoid hitting spam filters etc, yet when I send emails from said domain (set up in a CPanel account the normal way) my emails are getting flagged as spam by the receiving mailserver, sometimes even when I reply to an email I have received.

Apart from adding an SPF record, which Im not sure my host will do, is there anything else I can do to help myself if this situation?

No, clear and clean.

Im thinking that hosting my own server and controlling my own reverse DNS may be the only option.

You could always just point the MX records to Google Pro or FastMail - they are dead cheap and 100% reliable for email. In my experience, handling your own email on your own box is a nightmare and a spammer's heaven :(
