Has anyone else over the years managed to sell and then re-acquire the name again in the future ?

I purchased a website back in 2008 which i later sold for Low - mid 4 figures, 2 years later i purchased the site back for low 3 figures after the owner let it sit and rot.

I then sold it again 6 months down the line for a quick revival and flip ( which is what my intentions were when purchasing it ) for mid 4 figures again.

Since then ive always had the domain notifications of Whois change etc and although the last owner had removed the site some years ago he had continued to renew the domain.............until this year where i have just picked it up off the aftermarket for £6, 3rd time of owning it :)

Has anyone else done similar ?

They're buying for the site right? rather than the domain

Sounds like people are buying a dream from you

A dream of a profitable site, but they don't know how to make it profitable so the dream turns into a dead duck and they just try and forget they wasted money on it, then you pick it back up?

Not trying to make accusations btw, I don't know if they're buying an already dead duck or if it's just a dead duck in their hands.

In this particular instance both of the sales the new owners said they wanted to redevelop a site on the domain rather than using the site that was already there.

I agree it was probably a dream or future plan which they wanted to pursue but never got around to it, neither of them had plans to develop on what was already there.

I suppose the combination of traffic at the time and the domain was good enough to warrant the sale, although having said that it was a lot easier to sell sites this niche in those days that had existing revenue and traffic, Now days the same niche isnt as vibrant however the domain is more of a brand rather than dedicated to one niche so thats the play i will be looking for this time around.

I once bought a domain name at auction for low $$$, then sold it for $3000 a couple weeks later. Strangely the buyer never put it to use, and it expired a year later. Then it came up on the expireds auction again and I bought it back for $400 something. It's still for sale :)

Its weird isnt it, ive seen so many people that have sold reasonable valued sites with consistent revenue, traffic and with the revenue being solid for example long term advertisers etc so we're not talking about some crappy click bank product, Its then sold...the new owner leaves it to rot and doesnt work at maintaining and improving the revenue and traffic, its like people have far too much money and just need to spend it .
