This is the best thing Nominet have suggested yet.

Will end up like the .com space. Good or bad? Expiring inventory moves from drop catchers to a few top Registrars with auction platforms.

Maybe this might help the secondary market by allowing potential buyers the chance to see the real value in domains?

It's difficult to educate when people don't want to learn.

Has NameJet.com helped boost awareness and values? Probably not.

Maybe for you as your not involved

Does not stop it being the best idea they have had yet.

Will help all the small business that people have become so passionate about.

Nominet finally grows some balls.

Nominet finally grows some balls.

How does it help small businesses?.

I agree if you compare it to their other ideas recently it does have a chance, but that's only because the competition on good ideas emerging from Nominet is pretty low. :D

Do you mean small businesses like 123-reg, one-and-one, Heart Internet?

We all know what I mean lets just be honest.

Would you rather pay at auction or buy of a domainer? if you are a start up business looking for a domain.

Not be rude but I honestly don't.

Any nice names will be bid on by people with deep pockets.

And anywho there is already domainlore where a lot of nice names are up for grabs for decent prices. I may be wrong but if this does happen I could imagine because of the audience of the larger registrars it will increase awareness, bidders & indeed prices.

We are all entitled to our opinions I know were I would rather buy.

Nominet are missing a trick they should end drop catching and auction of the names themselves they would be quids in easy money.

If you look at the .com market and namejet for example. The general public just aren't aware of how things work, so you get a bunch of resellers all bidding against each other pushing the price up.

Most of those domains then end up on domain sales sites with huge prices, based on the fact that the reseller has paid large sums of cash to acquire them. The domainer and the end user all end up paying more for the domains.

The only winners are the registrars that have been allowed to acquire the domains for free!

I like domaining, It's got a good entrepreneurial spirit.

People who were savvy have taken advantage of dropcatching and I have to say hats off to them; I wish I had started years ago.

I guess I'm going a bit off topic :p

I would rather pay five grand at auction for a name that I want knowing I was the highest bidder than pay a domainer five grand and not know if I over paid.

Its called a free market a level playground

What makes you think it is going to auction once someone like OneAndOne give it to DomCollect to sell for them?

I don't get where you think it says the registrars have to auction it? Compared to the plain old selling it method in the same way people do now.

Lets wait and see.

Funny how all the domain guru didn't see this coming.

Lets wait and see.

You are the one mate that says it's a good idea because auctions are coming at the end of it. You surely can't then logically say wait and see if auctions are what comes out of it, it doesn't add up.
