Nice one guys... anyone else experiencing refused access to any control panels thanks to Fasthosts recent compromised server situation?

I am in queue position 35 as I write this - seems they have changed all passwords now... without any letters arriving to tell you what the new one is...

Just when you need to change DNS on your domain... what a bunch of tw**s

Glad I am moving over to my own Tag ---- albeit slow and sure!!

Oh btw if you are : use 01452 541251 as their 0870 number will cost you and you won;t get through !!

I received numerous emails over the last few weeks telling me to make sure all passwords were reset or they would do it so I have had no problems.

Really? I had one and that went straight in the SPAM bin...

They must have known this was going to blow up if they only sent out letters yesterday / today as seems to be the case..

I don't live in the middle of nowhere, but even mates in London I know haven't had anything... all they had to do was wait until Sat when traffic and business needs less.

A Tuesday... jeez... I'd shoot my guy who did that!

Muppets...

I look after a site for a pal of mine. (do all the changes) but he uses a local company to look after the hosting. On Friday i could not gain access and it transpires his local company use Fasthosts as they sent me a copy of an email they were sent.

Still cannot gain access today

Subject: Important information about your Fasthosts account

Dear Customer,

We wrote to you on 18th October 2007 advising that you change all of the
passwords on your Fasthosts accounts (including control panel, FTP,
database and email), in order to prevent any unauthorised account access
following the network intrusion we previously communicated.

Whilst we have found the vulnerability that caused this issue, and have
instigated a system wide security audit to improve and enhance our
current security, we also advised you to change your control panel, FTP
and email passwords as a precaution.

Today we have been made aware that a small number of our customers who
did not change their passwords have experienced a compromise to their
FTP space.

As a result, in order to totally protect all of our customers, we have
today implemented an automatic password change for every control panel,
FTP or SQL password that was not previously reset.

In 10 days time we will also reset all unchanged email passwords.

To ensure complete security when communicating your new passwords to
you, we will first take the stringent measure of sending the new control
panel password via Royal Mail. Once you have received your new control
panel password, you will then be able to go into your control panel and
immediately change your FTP, SQL and email passwords. Please note that
the email password reminder system will not work from the time you
receive this mail, to the time you log in with your new control panel
password.

If you have already changed your control panel password, you will still
need to go into your control panel and change ALL the FTP, SQL and email
passwords associated with your accounts that haven't already been
changed.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER SHOULD YOU TRY TO REUSE ANY OF YOUR
OLD PASSWORDS

We apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause you during this
period, but trust you understand that our primary concern is for our
customers and for the security of their websites and data.
Unfortunately, an automatic password change is the only way of ensuring
that all of our customers are totally secure.

If you have any questions relating to this, please contact our Customer
Support team on 0870 888 3600 or [email protected], and
they will be more than happy to help you.
Thank you once again for your understanding and cooperation in this
matter.
Yours sincerely,

The Fasthosts Team

What they are not warning people to do is change their passwords for other sites if they have used the same or similar passwords elsewhere.

still no letter. I wonder how much theyve lost through customers having to go elsewhere to reg names ?

so that's 1and1 and now ukreg struck off my list.

Any recommendations for decent uk registrars that will handle the transfer of 500+ domains to them ??

Pen, get a TAG - surely with the amount of trading and buying you do it'd be worthwhile!!!

Ok, this morning I received 2 letters from fasthosts, both with different passwords. Neither of them work, FFS !!

If somebody would like to guide me through the process of getting a tag etc, I'd much appreciate it!

and the customer service number given on the letter is unobtainable. What a complete shambles.

emails keep coming back saying i've not included account number and pin, when I ruddy well have!

have now rung through on the 01452 number. I'm at queue position 38 (6.44pm.....)
