Ok, so I think I understand why they're important in the keyword rich domains, but how do I find out how many exacts and actuals a domain has?

I thought it would just be putting the key words in "" and entering it on google or something, but they bring up different values to what people have been posting so obviously thats not right.

can someone please explain how I find it out please.

many thanks
daniel

p.s. sorry for the noob questions.

ok, probably another obvious question, I've searched the keywords and ticked exact, but whats the difference between the results in the square brackets and the ones without?

Hi

Generally for uk you need to be looking at local as opposed to global also - that is maybe why there are differences

However if you are thinking of developing then don't get too overly concerned with exact match as exact match is essentially just the search traffic for the exact term in the domain.

Exact match is something that domainers often refer to but it is not the metric to look at in terms of development as far as I am concerned. Phrase match gives a much better indication of the type of traffic levels a domain could get if developed well. That said for some reason people on this forum tend to focus on EMD and I am not quite sure why - especially after there was a downgrade of straight exact match so really for exact match to work a site has to be partially developed and therefore phrase match is still probably the better metric.

Anyway those are my thoughts - hope they are helpful and not confusing

The results in the brackets are the "broad" search results under the "match type", ignore those for .UK domains, they are only really for the likes of global names in .com

Untick broad.

Broad results appear without anything, exact in square brackets and phrase match on quotes.

Sorry, I meant the "global" search results should be ignored for .UK :)

What I meant was, broad terms don't mean much as that's just the keyword you are searching for mixed in with any number of other words, for example, using the keyword tool to get the results for the term "money" gives 49,500 exacts, but the broad results for the same term are 9,140,000, which is becuase in "broad" mode the keyword tool returns all searches including the word money, so if someone Googles "where is best to invest my money", that will come up as a broad result, so better to stick with exacts as that's all that people ever seem interested in with regard to the tool, I never look at "phrase" results.
