Hi All

Any suggestions where I can get hold of some nice forum software (similar to this )

Best Regards

Hky

I've used SMF occasionally:

http://www.simplemachines.org/

In fact, the first link in my sig uses it now if you'd like to see an example.

It's pretty decent for free software. It can be a little buggy, but it's moddable and the support community is both friendly and helpful.

Mike.

vB is paid, as is IPB, but are both the best paid-options at the moment. :)

Free options include MyBB, SMF and some other newer ones about (e.g. see HotScripts). Avoid phpBB IMO.

If you're going to be a big forum board, then definitely take vB or IPB, it will be worth the money in the long term. :)

woopwoop, what are those video ads on your pages and do they pay well?

Cheers, Grant

They look different to the youtube ones. What are the clicks like on those Alien, compared to regular adsense?

They are from http://www.unrulymedia.com

Almost anyone can sign up. They have a lot of european targeted videos, but they don't geoserve. So it's down to you to copy and paste the simple code - much like youtube.

Occasionally there's a fee for just adding a video (even if no one clicks you might still make a few $'s for adding) otherwise they pay between 3c - 20c (but usually 8c - 10c) per view (in the target country). Each video that you can use has a pot of money for commission. Once the pot has been depleted (from views on your site or others) then you may be showing the video but not getting paid - fair enough - just change the code. Plus they've just introduced something where it'll change your video when the advertiser's funds have run out.

I like the idea of it. Nice for blog sites. And a nice change to adsense. I made a fair bit on Jodie Marsh advert (because the initial image on the video player was of her barely wearing anything!)

I also put the video player on Promotions Database

Interesting, so when you say 10c a view, do they have to watch the complete video, because alot of people may switch off after a few seconds, would you still get the money?

The 10c varies per video.
And I'm not sure when the action of marking the video 'viewed' is (but I don't think that it is at the end.

I've had some long videos on there that even I thought were too long, but I still got credited with many views as site visitors tuned in.

They do approve your site first, but I've had none rejected.

To put things in perspective there have been a bunch of less than 10 seconds videos (cadbury's cream eggs) that paid 3c each.

Worth a look.
