I have a domain that was the 'main' domain I had on a spare chuck of webspace at work, everything was going great and it was 1st page listed on all major search engines for a variety of search terms.

The problem began when I moved its location and instead of having a straight forward zonefile CNAME, I forwarded it to another domain - www.domain.com/newdomainfile.

Since then its dropped of the face of the earth. Is there anyway to confgure the site so that its still picked up by the search engines?

if it's on linux then use .htaccess to do either a Redirect 301 or mod_rewrite to force a silent redirect.

Google indexex the 301's better than a standard header/javascript redirect.

Thanks guys.

Ive given it a look and whilst it seems straightforward enough im not sure that im running on the right server to run a 301.

I will investigate!

all webservers can (read: should) issue a 301 header if you set it up right.

What server are you running?

Ok, so Ive managed to get it all working. However, the domains are no longer clocked when forwarding from 1 webspace to a folder hanging off another space altogether.

Is there anyway of doing this? Am I stuck with a life of being ommited from the search engine.

Let me get this straight. You have a domain a.tld which you forwarded to b.tld/some.html and now a.tld is omitted from the search results? If you do a 301 redirect than b.tld/some... will be indexed instead of a.tld. If you want a.tld to be indexed I think you will have to get server space for it instead of redirecting it.

Thats how its looking. Ive got 19 developed sites though :(

The problem appears solved. Weycrest are offering unlimited domains in 1 hosting package for £10+ vat a month.
