I just contacted my host to see if they can hide my name/address on my domain and the guy has just told me to send him some new info so he can update update the whois info. I thought you had to provise legit whois info?

My hosting tech support are so damn thick! I asked if they provide whois protection, the guy sends me some stuff to fill in so they can update my whois info, which doesn't needed updating... or didn't until they deleted it.

Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to give incorrect WHOIS info. I know this to my cost - but I can't tell you how/why :)

.co.uk - you can legally hide your address if you registered domain in capacity of an individual.

.com, .net, .info - There are a number of paid for services that allow you to hide your own data, e.g. Whois Privacy Protection Service, Inc. Enom and GoDaddy registrars offer this service to their customers. Note however that these companies will release your details if someone disputes your ownership of a domain, e.g. trademark infringement.

It is a pretty bad idea to use false data on a WHOIS, especially a false registrant name, because then legally speaking you don't own the domain.

There are many is the US and UK who want WHOIS data protected from public access because of abuse by spammers.

If you've got a decent domain registrar they'll let you use their office address as a "Care Of" address and pass on any correspondence should it arrive.

(We do for our customers)

I'm with Micfo but I dunno if they can provide any type of whois protection like GoDaddy does, saying that Micfo register domains at eNom so maybe I would speak to them?
