Current Google rankings for my city sites prior to launch. Seems like a funny blip towards middle of last week, but back to around an average of 170 again ;(

I use the rank checker in FF but miss the legacy of past results like your chart.

Possibly, but I've been using the same browser on the same PC. I do seem to get different results depending on browser, Mac or PC etc etc

The blip could perhaps be people looking for accommodation for the Bank Holiday.

This is hard to have a look at your chat. So what is your chat about? Don't pay attention too much on the google page rank when there is no traffic to your site.

The seomoz rank checker will automatically check the rank weekly against your choice of keywords, and keep and chart the history. It is a paid tool, not sure if there are free alternatives. It is fun but ultimately vanity, of the 10K page views last month on one site last month (small I know, haven't started work on the sites full time yet - hopefully next month, can't wait!) less than 8% arose from the town name keyword alone.

Whatever may have been posted about what may have been "done" to your domains Phil, I'd be willing to bet that most of them will appear on page one for the city name within a month, two at most. The authority of the domain makes a big difference. I can't really compare as the towns I am targetting are far far smaller, and hence less competitive, but the last one I put up appeared on front page of G within a week.

Average position has dropped to around 100...

I think this kind of chart can be generated easily in Google, provided that you have account in it. If possible, please give us some instruction how to draw this kind of chart.

Have you specified them all under Google Webmaster tools, and uploaded an XML sitemap for each there? After that, it is just a case of quality inlinks from external sites (not your own - Nottingham.co.uk seems to have some juicy old inlinks from a university site and others). Then, give it time.

The changes that you're experiencing 'could' be to do with the changes to the Google algorithm (Mayday Update- approx. April 28-May 03 2010).

Effectively what this mean't is that some sites are losing 5-15% of their long tail traffic.

1. Update Your XML Site Map.
2. Goto Google Webmaster Tools, there is a link that lets you resubmit the sitemap and ping Google and let them know you've updated your XML, news, or video sitemaps.
