Google squeezing out price comparison sites

If you search "car insurance" you now get an ad box below the adwords ads but above the organic serps where Google (in direct competition to comparehtemeerkat etc) will compare prices for you.

They are using beatthatquote . com a London company they acquired last year.

i guess they will be rolling it out to other financial products eventually. A big problem for the price comparison brands, but also for sites that rank well for less competitive exact match domains

"Don't be evil" eh google? Evil is subjective and they think they're being angels in providing another service.

For me the big shame is that there is now another chunk of advertising before you get to the natural links. One of the things I liked about 'old' google was how clean and uncluttered it was, you entered a search and were given a list of results. Now you have Adsense down the side, banners at the top, and now this as well.
Glad I use StartPage for most of my searches, cuts down on the ads and does not record my IP address
