Hi,
This my step by step, slowly but hopefully surely, now that I have my domain, would it be better to host it and create a website using Dreamweaver, doing some SEO stuff or would it be better using wordpress which I know nothing of apart from being a blog tool.
I resist from buying more domains but I feel like it's an investment and I tend to go by looking any good domain name available by hand registering to find an attractive name, is it better to look at snapnames or sedo for good domains rather than wasting my time typing ?

It seems that the domain business is not that old and theren't much resources out there for more information to look for.

i would try a CMS ,either wordpress ,joomal and drupal see which one you find easiest ,my general rule of thumb is small site i:e, mini site i would use Dreamweaver and use a html based site ,if it is an expensive project and would need loads of updating i would use wordpress /joomla.

Registering good domains by hand are very rare and do not generally warrant big money.

I have been domaining for a touch over ten years and Nominet has been the UK Registry since 1996 :) so not exactly new ,some of the old timers on these boards are Pre Nominet :p

and how come there are more keywords .co.uk available? aren't they popular even if they have high search ?

I would be careful with your keyword tool, make sure you are looking at UK exacts.

I think the general feeling is that almost all of the really good keywords worth registering have been taken already and what are left are mainly of lower, or much lower value, but still worth something in the right hands given the right treatment.
And there's always a lucky strike now and then, like panning for gold.:)
Just my humble opinion.

If I were to buy one in Sedo, or just grab one after it's deleted, then what is the test for the domain name to pass before buying

in one word "experience" ,what would you do with that domain ,affiliate scheme available ? would it warrant google adsense and trickle money into your account ? what is the person/company using with similar domains.

i would try and purchase a domain in a niche that you have a good working knowledge ,this way it will keep you motivated and you can update the content frequently and know what you are talking about ,google will give this site love because you have and rank it !!!

local geo are a good idea and always worth a punt for your first site ,i:e; "leicesterPlumbers.co.uk" and get a local plumber involved and charge him/her per lead

hope this helps

very helpful thanks, but if I were to buy one in auction, what would I be looking for in order to know the value and set the buying price, leicesterplumbers.co.uk for instance ? how would I rate it. My nich for now is in the vehicle hire business, I bought vanshire.com which I will develop, but again I am open to more

Use wordpress for your first site. It's simple to install and relatively easy to use. Dreamweaver will get you involved in base HTML which you don't need to know and Joomla or Drupal are for advanced marketers and many of those use wordpress exclusively.

Your biggest asset when starting out is time so don't waste it learning stuff you don't need to know yet.

I wish it was like the high code, no left turn, no speeding, stop...ect, but there you go, it's like being in an ocean now, and I just go to the nearest island till I find that treasor, or at least until I can get a map ! cheers anyway I start to see the light at the end of the tunnel

Well it's definitely not easy. A lot of hard work goes into every operation that is successful and a lot of hours. A lot of hours.

But you've come to the right place to learn that's for sure.

Hi,
I'm in a similar position and I was wonder if I should use parking or affiliates?

Please advise...

Thanks

Parking is for those with domains that have potential but don't get a lot of traffic or they can afford to wait for the right customer.

Affiliate marketing utilises the traffic but takes more effort.

Depends if you are cash rich/time poor or visa versa.

thanks, but still how much can I earn from it?

How much can you earn?

From parking you can earn loads if you have a good domain name that gets loads of type ins.

From affiliate marketing you can earn loads if you are good at it.

You are not pressing the right buttons to get a good answer here. You really need to be more specific in your questioning to get a good answer.

Try something like "I have x domain name - what would be the best way of maximising revenue"

Or

"what's the best way of earning the most whilst doing the least from x domain"
