Further to Edwin and Domainsellers film threads, can you name a great film that nobody else has heard of?

I propose 'Bullshot' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swr3PhPEnbg

We got this on VHS when I was a kid from the bargain bin at Macro - I've never found anyone else who's heard of it...yet! Watched it loads back then.

Time Crimes (foreign film) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480669/

"A man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences."

Weird! I was thinking of posting Time Crimes too :)

That's crazy. I really didn't think anyone else here would've seen it :).

If any of you like a flutter, they ought to watch Owning Mahowny!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0285861/

"A bank manager (Hoffman) with: (a) a gambling problem and (b) access to a multi-million dollar account gets into a messy situation. Based on the story of the largest one-man bank fraud in Canadian history."

One final suggestion, Thank You for Smoking:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427944/

"Satirical comedy follows the machinations of Big Tobacco's chief spokesman, Nick Naylor, who spins on behalf of cigarettes while trying to remain a role model for his twelve-year-old son."

Okay I love world war 2 films! and these I love (all foreign subtitled) you may have heard of them i'm not sure

'The Counterfeiters' - The Counterfeiters is the true story of the largest counterfeiting operation in history (this ones in my top 10 all time films, def recommend it!)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0813547/ if you have a lovefilm instant account it's available here: http://www.lovefilm.com/film/The-Counterfeiters/93604/?play_immediately=1

'Max Manus - Man of war' - The true story about one of the most brilliant saboteurs during World War II http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029235/

'Flame and Citron' -A drama centered on two fighters in the Holger Danske World War II resistance group http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0920458/

I'll be sure to check some of those out :). As you're a fan of foreign world war II movies I really recommend that you watch Come and See: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1036052-come_and_see

"A rare look at World War II from the Soviet side, Come and See is based on the real-life experiences of Ales Adamovich, who fought with Russian partisans in Belarus in 1943, when the Nazis systematically torched over 600 villages and slaughtered their inhabitants. "

Not obscure as such, but you may not have come across it if you're not into foreign films: Battle Royale (Japanese)...

Basically a bunch of schoolkids on an island with weapons, winner takes all...

Will put that on my 'to watch' list.

@edwin , watched that again last week, pretty good!

Have seen this but couldn't have told you what it was called :)

I quite liked Turistas and The Proposition (2005 one) which don't really seem to have been seen by the masses.

Have heard Lebanon is a good movie but haven't had the opportunity to see it yet.

Another great film / feature length TV series was 'Killer Net' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0127383/

"Students get involved in a violent Internet-based game, around the same time as a series of murders - is there a connection?"

Considering this was released in 1998, I think it was a little before it's time, but I am sure lot of you on here would enjoy it :)

I think I remember watching this on TV and really enjoyed it, though I can't totally remember what happened (other than a bunch of murders)...

Can't seem to find any kind of trailer to try and jog my memory either. :?

I bought it on DVD last December, but haven't had the chance to watch it again yet.

Here is another seller with it if you want to remind yourself :) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Killer-Net-Lynda-Plante-DVD-PAL-Region-2-New-/200358251955 or the good old fashioned VHS version here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Killer-Net-VHS-/220971871099?pt=UK_DVD_Film_TV_Videos&hash=item3372f32b7b

Some recentish non-mainstream films that I'd recommend:

- Elite Squad (Brazilian)
- Animal Kingdom (Australian)
- A Prophet (French)
- The Orphanage (Spanish)
- The Secret In Their Eyes (Argentinean)
- A Separation (Iranian)

That should keep you going for a while!

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)

Yes, a really good pick.

BTW, if you like time travel films, then I recommend "Primer". It's pretty zero-budget-ish, but it's fiendishly clever (I had to watch it twice and Google the cheat notes to really start to get to grips with it).

Quite a complex one that. Yeah, I've seen those cheat notes people have drawn up :). His next movie 'A Topiary' looks interesting too, if it ever actually gets made.

Another suggestion, Pi. Not exactly obscure, but probably the least well known Darren Aronofsky movie.

You have good taste, Edwin. Saw it a couple of years ago and it stuck with me - a sign of a good film.

....

Went to watch Carancho, an Argentinean film noir starring the ever-excellent Ricardo Darin (from The Secret In Their Eyes), at the cinema last night. Thought it was good without being brilliant, but well worth a watch. 3.75 stars.

Yes, a really good pick.

I had this on old vhs I am not sure how I got hold of back then as it was only really released for Japan market but I think it did so well, they dubbed it and put it out over here.
