i am very new in the world of domains, but find this fascinating.
i am hoping to learn a lot of new things here.
I have som questions.
i have recently bought 4 domains (my first ever) and have parked them with sedo - when i google the sites, however they do not show up - only when i type in the domain name in the top bar i am directed to the sites. Is this normal? do i need to do something before google finds them?
i am wondering if it is more proffitable to buy a domain name and then go to google/yahoo to get advertising for the domains...sites?since they seem to be offering this.
As you can see very stupid questions, i am still a begginner.
thank you for any response,
AM.

welcome to acorn, what domains have you bought,i'll look for them?

thing is you must post your domains on blogs, forums everwhere you go leave your domains, google will send a googlebot through this site daily(because it is popular),within time google will pick up that you have registered this domain, don't expect to much whilst been parked,as a rule if your domain had a pagerank before it will dissapear whilst parked, are you constructing a site for the domain or just expecting money from just parked domains, most the guy's on here are seasoned pro's and most will tell you that unless you have a good generic or popular search term then it will be more pence than pounds.

Hello Andy

Welcome to AD first and foremost.

Your questions are not stupid by any means, everyone has to start somewhere and believe you me, in this industry, you can never stop learning if your mind is inquisitive enough, and anyway, asking 'dumb' questions is good for you invariably as you'll get dead simple answers by return, which will aid your learning process curve.

Now, this domain of yours. The poster above rightly pointed out that it's an unpopular term, to be honest with you, no punches pulled, you are going to find out, I may as well tell you straightaway, that you are not going to receive hardly any revenue from parking this domain with Sedo, and the chances of finding a sale for it to, to an end user, I think your chances of this happening are slim to say the least.

All is not lost though. When did you register it, and with which registrar? If during the past 5 days, you may be able to cancel the domain in question and get a credit added to your account, enabling you to buy something else with the credit given, that will stand you a much greater chance of earning some revenue from and too, the chances of finding an ideal end user.

The best thing you can do rightaway, since you are new to this game, is to not buy any more names just for now. First, read up everything you can about the subject, to get yourself well acquainted with this industry sector. As with anything, good amounts of research and knowledge helps, and I do not mean, just reading for a day or two either.

If you really find this fascinating, read constantly everything you can for at least two months, for at least 4 hours each day or the equivalent of such. Believe you me, researching like this will make you more money in the medium to long term and in the short term, will save you oodles of cash that might be wasted on near worthless domains. Every new domainer we know is eager to get going, this is natural, but it's also folly to believe you will very easily earn money from this approach, you must do your research first to understand the basic why for's, pro's and con's.

It is generally accepted too, that the best place for newbies to potentially earn money is not from new name registrations, but names bought in the aftermarket. First of all, check out this forum for some excellent advice, then afterward, bookmark http://www.namenewbies.com for some very basic advice. For indepth reading, go to http://www.dnjournal.com - there you will see links to a great deal more information.

If you really feel the urge to register a name, at least run it past one or two experienced domainers first. Some of them can be fairly close knitted and don't like helping out others, but you will find more than a few who love helping out others and sharing some tips and advice. By all means shoot me a pm message anytime and I really will do my best to help you, and the same applies to anyone else too, the offer is always there.

Wishing you all the very best and if there is anything at all I can assist you with, please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Kindest regards.

Mark

good post skyhigh, try and find a buzz word or something generic,i don't know about norway but things like recycle and the environment are popular search words at the moment here in the u.k,if you had something like "cheapflights/com" which is a popular search term then you would fetch good money because there are plenty of searches for this product,i would personally try and build a simple website than parking it,i have just purchased bankdeals/co/uk now before i bought it i was thinking of a comparison site for credit cards, mortgages, loans,we have all bought nasty domains me more than most(everybody on here will tell you),if i had taken skyhigh's advice i would be much better off now.so try not to buy until you have got a feel for domaining.

tusen takk

thanks again guys- really appreciate the help.
Skyhigh-tried to send a pm - but the innboks was too full to accept more messages....
