Hello everyone,

I'm new here, I've only been doing domains for about the last 6 months but we'll see how it all goes.

I have very recently gotten into .co.uk domains and apart from the 12or so .co.uk that I have, the rest are .com(with only 2.nets). I have been learning as I go along but then I'm sure I've made some mistakes with some of my domains.

Thanks for your message. I will do in future, while I build on the domains that I already have. I have always been a bit hesitant of buying .co.uk domains as I figured that if I bought the .co.uk and not the .com domain many people would assume it'd be the .com and so go to a rival site? I am unsure of whether to get the .com as well for some domains, for example there is a .co.uk that I am currently developing and buydomains.com has the .com and I'm very tempted to get the .com as well, but I'm not sure if I need to. It is a generic domain so I'm not sure whether it'd be better to brand my new website rather than just having the generic.

But yes, accelerator is right, the homework is important for you to make the most out of your domains, but it doesn't mean some names which appear worthless are truely worthless, after all there's tonnes of ways to monetize.

I totally agree, at the moment my domains are the smallest part of my self-employed income but at the same time I realise that it takes time for some sites to get established and my affiliate revenue on some of my sites is not doing badly.

I definitely have a few domains that aren't that good, but not loads + loads that completely suck. I'm waiting to see how the Chinese TLD domains that I have do, maybe it'll be a long wait! I know it's all about patience, about finding that one end-user who wants to buy your domain. And for me at least, domaining is something that I can do then I can leave the domains to keep earning revenue and waiting for a while for something to happen.

I normally only register domains that I feel I could make a successful affiliate site out of myself, which takes out a lot of the risk. This is quite different to registering domains that other people will want to buy from you.

Normally, if a .co.uk is worth buying, it means the .com is worth buying as well if it's available. Very often though, I will find the .com is already taken. Goodl .co.uk will sell on their own regardless of whether you have the .com as well.

Thanks for the advice. Some of my domains I am using for my own retail businesses one of which I am thinking about whether to keep with that generic.co.uk + buy the same .com or wait for my trademark application to come through and then try and buy a less generic name.

Ok that's great to know, for the domains that I can get .com + .co.uk I will buy both. That's another question is about variations. Is it worth getting all the possible variations like with 's' and without?

Hello, why are you waiting for your trademark application to be approved first ? this takes upto 2 years.

As long as you are activley trading under your trademark then your protected anyway assuming no one else was already trading under that particular name ?

Hello, thanks for your comment. I would prefer to be fully protected before I choose to start branding and using a non-generic term. The trademark has gone past the initial stages and is being advertised for the public review so it should only take another month to know.
