Hi everyone,

I wish I could say I've been trading for years but I've only discovered the exciting world (very exciting) of domaining a month ago. Since then I've bought five sites and can't wait to buy loads more.

I suppose its like anything else though you have to start small and work your way up.

My worst site, so the automated appraisals would have me believe, is witchlife.co.uk, which is a bit disappointing as I've spent quite a bit promoting it on Sedo.

My best site appears to be xmaskiss.com.

I wish I had discovered this business years ago because I would love to make a living from it and my ambition is to become a mega-domainer.

I think your site is very helpful and I look forward to being a productive and active member.

Best Wishes

Welcome Dave84822

You are not alone in wishing you've discovered domaining a long time ago....and would love to make a living from it. There are some on this forum that are doing just that and I still believe we have not left it too late. But of course it is still very difficult making enough to pay the mortgage and bills:D

Can I ask which automated appraisal you use?

Where are you btw?

thanx 4 the support;

Thanx for the supporting message mate,

I have used four different appraisals but the most realistic seems to be nameboy.com.

I wish I could sell just one of my domains at the moment to get me off and running, so to speak. I guess I'll just have to be patient at the mo!

Cheers

Hi Dave

Ignore all online domain appraisals - they are a waste of your time and money.

I cant see any money in the two you mentioned but hang around and you will be making a few quid in no time.

Welcome Dave, the only people that can value domains are buyers that offer hard currency, all else is lip service and pipe dreams.

In 2001 I had a domain that was professionally valued at $26,000, in 2005 I rightly let it expire.

Help, I'm starting to panic!

Hi SJI and Firestars,

Thanx for the warm welcome.

When I decided to join the world of domain trading a month ago, it all seemed fairly straight forward (at least it did according to Sedo); think of a good name, advertise it on Sedo and wait for the bucks to role in.

Unfortunately, the more I read about it, the more complicated it seems.

For example, I thought if you sold a name on Sedo, they take care of all the transfers but I was reading on another site tonight that if its a .co.uk site you have to go through nominet aswell.

Also I keep checking the status of my sites on whois and none of them say active, in fact three of them say transfer prohibited. Does this mean I don't have the right to sell them?

I'm starting to wonder if its worth the hassle?

I would be really grateful for all the advice you can give me please.

Thanx

Dave:confused:

If they are .com domains then they are locked - this protects you from unauthorised transfers.

If you sell, simply unlock and transfer. The buyer then locks them again.

Hi Dave

Another newbie here....making mistakes and hopefully not annoying the more experienced too much!

I agree with the comment about online valuations, I guess in my amateur opinion it's a bit like estate agents valuing a house - you can value it however you want but it's true worth is what it sells for.

I'm looking forward to some of the regulars having a look at some of my domains and giving their opinions/appraisals as this should be a more reliable indication (unless they are looking to buy from you! lol)

Anyway good luck!

Tony.

Hi dave & welcome..

I agree stick around here & you'll pick up some great advice

As for appraisals .. cant remember which service i used ( was free )
