Hi Names.of.London here

I'm guessing your bank hasn't made such a backward move ;) I suppose if the bank fails people will be happy to bail it out - they have done in the past. That's the only 'sure thing'.

My bank, Lloyds, is still running on its .com with a redirect from the .co.uk.....#safefornow

It's more understandable with the little guy who goes along to 123-reg and types something in and is returned a list of available names.

Exactly. More sales options have always been good news for registrars (think .uk), particularly when people are in search mode and ready to buy and filled with hope about their new venture. At that moment, perceived resonance and relevance of the name trumps actual usage in the real world. The last thing people are doing is taking a multi year view on the registry/operator. Likely the first they'd know about picking the wrong name is getting an email one day to say that their piece of internet real estate is being closed down.

I had a friend who bought a 5 word .com name for his business last week, to his mind it seemed to perfectly incapsulate all the different things he did. I did mention that amongst other things he was likely to struggle with email - at the same time I can also appreciate how that was the last thing on his mind.

Extra dots seems to have even more potential for confusion - I can't think of anyone else other than del.icio.us (I had to type that out twice as I got the dot wrong) who have made it big.

I saw a .yoga domain on a sign outside a home in Norwich the other day.

(If anyone drives the Ipswich road in Norwich, it was nearish a Shell garage. Yeah, pretty vague I know...)

I was born and raised in Norwich believe it or not, is that where you are from?

Went to school just off Ipswich Road.

And they bought delicious.com once they had Yahoo's money.

There was an attempt to bring the site back on del.icio.us recently after Yahoo sunsetted it.... doesn't look like a very successful attempt though.

Nope. Just happened to be there the other day (for only the second time in my life) City centre was very pleasant, especially around the covered market area.

Yes its a lovely city, unfortunately priced out of it after moving up north.

Has seen a lot of gentrification, although I grew up in a rough bit which is still rough.
