New article about Ebay & Argos. Seems Argos is really focussing on the order fulfillment and logistics side of retailing, which is there speciality.

Click and collect is taking off on the high-street and is a major change in the face of retailing. Though how you'd fit a sofa into a locker I don't know!

Interesting read. I know I was of the train of thought that Argos would just die off with the rest of the high street until recently.

A bloke that lives near me is a manager at Argos and I asked him how Argos was fairing - I was taken aback when he said better than ever. It seems some people that buy things online are just too impatient and want their items "now" - so they're willing to pay a premium to click and collect from an Argos store, as opposed to waiting for it to be delivered.

I was quite surprised initially but it does make sense really. I don't shop in Argos because I find their prices ridiculous, but it seems to be a decent business model! I guess Argos is pretty much one of a kind now, I can't think of anywhere else you can click and collect anything from a breadmaker to a a cable tidy for your TV.

I love Argos.
I don't mind paying a couple of quid extra as I can get it immediately.

Go down the Amazon route and you have 2 choices:
wait 3-4 days for free delivery
Pay a premium for next day delivery


Argos can never match Amazon on price. Argos have to pay hight st rent/rates.

Amazon receive huge grants for buliding aircraft hangers out of town and staff the majority of them with minimum wage agency staff.

Argos pay their taxes. Amazon whisk them off to the land of wherever.


My kids love Argos too. (birthday and Christmas money)
You still can't beat looking through the catalogue for toys. Choosing, popping online to reserve and pop down to pick them up and hour later.
