I am getting round to putting sites on some of the domains I've bought over the years, here's a hotels in Paris one. I know the site isn't perfect but if anyone wants to take a look and give some comments then great.

As you might notice, my main aim is to stick the hotel search right under the user's nose to get them to use it.

Now I just have to rank the site ... if anyone wants to do a link exhcnage, let me know.

Looks very much the same as your other websites.

Although there is plenty of content on the homepage, that's the only page it is on making it an extremely 'thin' website. It's certainly going to make people want get off it as soon as possible though, and I expect if the traffic is there you will make some commissions as a result.

However, personally I would consider it as a 'bridge page' which doesn't really add additional value to users looking for hotels. It wouldn't take much additional effort to make it look good, add value, convert and gain natural links. In the long term, I think you will struggle to keep any positions you gain as nobody is going to want to link to you (unless of course you plan on buying links).

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with a lot of what you've said, at the moment though the main aim is to get a basic site up on as many domains as possible. Making people want to get off it quickly isn't necessarily a bad thing ... I agree that more long tail pages would be necessary to target the niche successfully.

Should have clarified that I agree this will work (hence mentioning generating commissions), but it's not really a sustainable strategy.

I don't know if Google look at the total time spent on a website at the moment or not when ranking websites, but if they do already (or plan to in future, which wouldn't surprise me), it would definitely have a detrimental effect.

I expect Google will look at metrics like this ... anything that Google Analytics can provide.

I have made commissions from similar basic sites ... my main problem now is that those sites no longer rank, and ranking them is becoming a lot harder and perhaps where basic sites fall down a bit. Still, it's good to still have a challenge :D
