THIS CONCERNS PREMIUM GENERIC DOMAINS!!

I have the .com version of a widely used .co.uk

It has 17000 members that receive a magazine each month! - and growing!

Another website that has information on the industry, news, events, law etc....as sub headings on the side of each webpage for these sections.

The section that concerns me shows MY DOMAIN (.com) as a heading that when clicked on takes the user straight to the .co.uk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This MUST BE ILLEGAL and unfairly improves the image of the .co.uk...People will not bother to click the .com and instead think that the .com version is the same as the .co.uk!!

WHAT THE F*CK CAN I DO ABOUT THIS &....Can I sue their ass??

Propmpt reply appreciated

I cannot divulge the domain as it may hamper proceedings!

Have you pointed out the incorrect link text to the site in question?

Hi - that was quick!!

Er...no I haven't yet!

I want to know what can be done first? I don't want to be unneccesarily unfair; however, this is a major site and these mistakes quite frankly can't be made!

It says xxxxxxxxx.com but when the cursor goes over it the .co.uk shows at the bottom left of screen.

This means that ultimately the traffic my site might have received will not travel there as they think the .com & .co.uk are the same

Perhaps I'm being a little slow but wouldn't this help you rather than cause problems.

If someone is revisiting and thinks they own the .com they might type that in and go to your site rather than theirs. Your not losing any traffic because the add is theirs not yours.

Personally I don't see what the problem is.

Me neither, its not as if the .com version is a developed site/brand, its a parking page. They have obviously made a mistake, just email them and ask them to change it?

Or failing that you could always call 999 and ask them to send the riot squad round followed by your team of lawyers :)

DRS them Lex for passing off. Anyway you have the .com so you have more right to it :p

DRS??

I'm glad this has stirred some debate amongst the domainers...

I was wondering what the implications are: none/some/many/loads!

p.s....aquanake how did you put the.com and direct it to the .co.uk!?!

Debate ? are you reading the same thread.

< a href = website co uk > website com < / a >

I think you're being an idiot, are they calling their site the .com when you own it or is it an error? If they're advertising the .com for, just laugh, they're doing you a favour.

DRS?? - What does that stand for??

idiot is rather a strong term. It's ok because you don't know who I am so...I'll let it pass!!

Basically; the discrepancy that has occured has made the .co.uk appear to have a .com address and would therefore give the impression that the .co.uk is more crecible than the .com as one is directed to the .co.uk instead of the .com!!

no!?!

Lex, they have obviously just made a mistake with the link, email them and tell them - its a basic and common mistake. And the .co.uk is obviously more credible than the .com as one is a developed site with 17k members, the other is a parked page?????

Yes you let it pass mate, you let it pass haha

And I aint being funny with you Lex but you've been on this site as long as I've been buying domains as an interest and a learning curve and I think I've learned a few things, how come you haven't picked up on some the things that I have?

Cheers
