How can this happen?

Hi,
I'm a little surprised at how this happens, 30 minutes ago I bought .uk domain from GoDaddy without owning the .co.uk version.

Yesterday a friend told me that he bought a .uk domain ( he is from another country without UK address and not owning .co.uk domain ) and I told him that is not possible, but I try this morning and accidentally I own the domain 8ad.uk.

I spook with GoDaddy support and they told my the same - we don't know, but keep the domain, now is in your account.

Any thoughts...

If the .co.uk domain wasn't registered before a certain date or has elapsed since and been re-registered then the rights issue to the .uk is removed and is open to all to register.

Thanks, however I'm not going to register any other .co.uk or .uk domains,

It was only registered last year, so it came with no rights
