How do you contact someone through 1 & 1 Internet?

Anyone had any luck contacting a domain name owner where the name is registered with 1 & 1 Internet in the States?

Registrar shouldn't have any bearing on the ability to contact the registrant.

Problem is Ben there's no contact details in the whois apart from 1 & 1 Internet and they're telling me I can't get the domain owner's details for "security reasons".
