1 - Edwin (or someone) turned down a £4k offer which you didnt like.
2 - Domainers ought to sell names for prices you want.
3 - You claimed to have owned Flowers.co.uk Wine.co.uk Books.co.uk, and even went to the lengths to phone nominet in 2006 to prove it to yourself for some reason.

Regarding the Flowers / Wine etc claims looking again you mention Nominet would write to old owners, yet Nominet was formed in 1996. I cannot fit in my head how the timeline would work, as the 'pre-nom' status of the names would mean they were before nominet existed, thus if Nominet existed (ie. 1996) and wrote to 'you' the owner and you didnt reply thus deleting them, the reg date would be after Nominets formation and not prenoms....?! All abit chicken & egg.

Looking back on that entire thread there is some laughable things, not sure what warrants a 'red' tick but guessing thats the source.

If you can explain how you used to own the said names you can certainly have my 'infamous' seal of approval for losing crackers and keeping going, however if you cant then you will be infamous to me for grand old domain tales

Rob, I have a great system for picking domain names that are free reg and have search volume. It never was worth us trying to buy a domain and for what we do a generic name would not help us at all.

We have built up about 400 sites and 25,000 pages (see www.pts.com) and all our sites have great Pagerank and Trustrank. We have a significant number of Google #1 spots ane nearly all our sites rank first page for many decent terms. We get around 300,000 pageviews a day now and significant Adsense revenue which is growing at 8.2% a month. In 5 years time we will own 250,000 pages and 5000 sites.

Maybe you think I am a bullshitter saying I owned those domains? In any event it's irrelevant and I am creating a content business that will grow into something significant.

I wasnt having a crack - you asked a question and that seems to be the answer.

As for owning generics, I struggle to think where owning wine.co.uk, books.co.uk or flowers.co.uk would not help in any manner.

The reason for asking for further info was to discover the back story to it as it would be a interesting story at the start of .co.uk. It was before my time online, I was kicking a ball around a playground in 1996 so have to rely on others to tell me what happened

If you do get time it would be of interest to know as the history of the industry as it only happens once!

Nice collection of sites, I keep meaning to do something similar! I presume all the content is generated by yourselves? Do you outsource or is it all produced in-house? Do you get good payback on the sites?

Sites

We outsource all content generation and use 'experts' or as close as can be. We pay between £25 and £40 per article. Our recruitment site is PtS: Writers Wanted....

The problem with this is it is hard to manage workflow. We now have close to 200 articles per day coming in and a hiccup causes a big problem. We have 120 active writers, an editor, 4 sub editors, two picture pickers and 16 link builders. We get a good return from Google and it works financially.

I avoided any form of advertising and we refuse to answer any of the 400 emails a day we get. Google is great because they just pay you. I tried affiliates etc etc and all were too much work.

Links is always a challenge but we have a good system and have many 1000's of one ways now into our cloud of sites.
