hello all

trying to get a domain away from one my clients previous hosts to a new one, they claim to of changed the IPS tag on the name but are telling me that it can take up to 48 hours to complete?

I've done 100's of transfer and the IPS tag changes before and they've always been instant.

Am I going mad????????

TIA!

Always been pretty instant for me. The 48 hours could be for the new tag to pick up if its not yours ? I think they actually have 5 days before it reverts if not picked up / accepted. Depends if the new tag has handshake settings or not I think.

@dee hi mate, it's changing from NAMESCO to LCN so I would of thought it was instant

they are now telling me they've searched their namesco account and the domains no longer appear but tag is still NAMESCO :(

That probably just means LCN haven't accepted the handshake yet. Give their custmer services a nudge.

Yep, LCN take some time to accept, but from what I understand from a client of mine, if you log in to your account, there is (somewhere) an option to accept it.

Hey Ian, thanks for your reply. I've found said area but no inbound names at the moment grrrrrrr haha

I used to have a client who I caught for and LCN was always a problem. It's been a few years ago but if memory serves me correct he needed to add to his LCN account first and then after an hour or so it will transfer. I think the handshake only gets accepted if the domain exists in the LCN account already.

turns out current registrar been caught lying about actually doing what they were paid (yes paid - they charged £35 to submit a TAG request) to do! Naughty naughty!!!

Is it still going on then? It's been 9 odd days since you asked ?

yep, took nearly 3 weeks to do! nothing to do with LCN, just old host getting shitty at losing a customer! 2 emails a day, then getting hold of the director of the business via LinkedIn finally did the trick!

Report them to nominet. I can't believe in this day and age that people charge for tag transfers and they're not instant or at least within a reasonable timeframe. Only nominet get to charge money for nothing - not their registrars.

Considering IPS TAG changes are near enough instant ISP's still play the old "It takes 3 days" trick to disguise their inefficiencies.
