How to approach a "monster"?

Contact details were not difficult to find for anyone who did want to try (telephone, email, LinkedIn, etc) but it was one I didn't actually bother getting in touch with after doing a little digging.

Reason being that after seeing the previous registrant's other business interests (advertising, marketing, property management), there looked to be a 99% chance that they would have just wanted to keep the domain and renew it.

Nice one Grant. :)

Nice catch!

Do people feel it's possible to catch names of this calibre, with a lot of catchers eyes on, with public catchers?

Or are customised tweaked scripts more likely to do the job - and doubtful using public offerings?

....or is it really down to 'luck'?

No, it's very very very unlikely that a public catcher would get this level of domain. They're not going to be going for just 1 name a day, and they're therefore going to be massively disadvantaged vs people who are chasing just 1 (or just a fraction of 1 i.e. running their script at full tilt for a few hours and using their entire day's quota up that way)

Having said that, it SHOULDN'T be impossible if the drops are genuinely "fair", but it's like having just one lottery ticket in a draw when others have tens of thousands.

Most great names will not drop as people are now turning detective and approaching owners with fair offers and at the same time alerting them to the suspended domain.

And it most cases they renew and retain.
