I know this will sound stupid to some of you because ive got the feeling the answer would ill along the lines of " learn and teach your self " type thing , obviously i would imagine that its a case of giving away trade secrets etc but ill ask anyway.

How do you learn how to get into Drop Catching.....in general and uk domains.

Costs involved , pros , cons etc

Any info would be good

If you can write your own code, then take a look at the DAC & EPP pages on the Nominet site and start coding. If not either use a drop catch service (many of them about, take a look at the adverts on the site and people's sigs and you'll probably end up with 10-15 or more to choose from) There are also a few who will license you their code in the form of a self contained drop catching system, but that's not a cheap option in the short term.

why bother? there are people on these forums that will do it for a flat fee of around £30-£50 like goldfrog and dragon,if they have a slot available they would be happy to catch it for you.

Thanks for the replies guys , well from past experiences if i wanted a particular domain which was worth a fare bit and i paid the £30 for someone else to get it , wouldnt it give them the chance to just go get it for them selves first ? Id like to before more than a web developer and do a little bit of brokering too rather being the end user etc.

Coding on the other hand isnt a major strong point of mine , but i use alot of freelancers so maybe they could wip something up.

If you use the catchers mentioned here, they won't steal your domain for £30.
