While other registrars are adding new category extensions to their arsenal, Godaddy is buying up other registrars.

The news: Godaddy has acquired Afternic

Will this affect the face of future registrations, registrars, etc. or will this actually improve on an already competitive service offered by Godaddy?

To clarify, Afternic isn't a registrar, it's a marketplace for domains. As the PR suggests, Afternic will continue to serve the industry, and will integrate GoDaddy Premium Listings into its inventory. So if your domains are with GoDaddy, you'll be able to list them at Premium Promotion level and benefit from instant transfer following a sale.

To reiterate, the first sentence clearly implicates GoDaddy as the registrar. The remaining portion of my question/thought was wondering about the future of registrars. I accidentally wrote 'registrars' at the end of first sentence.
