I have a good org.uk domain name which ranks and does well, and I have fancied the .co.uk for some time now, but knew the registrant didn't sell cheap from some the older posts on here.

I also knew that he was a bit of a mystery amongst the old time catchers (also posted on here in the past), so I decided to pay him a visit (because I really wanted the .co.uk) and his address on the whois was only 13 miles from where I live, so thought what the hell, I have noting to lose.

To cut a long story short, he is a nice normal guy in his 60's who was looking to get out of the game. He gave a me a full list of his names and asked me if I was interested - naturally I said yes, but would need time to think about it, and look through the list in detail.

So I went away and done just that. We met up again a few days later and agreed a deal for the lot and I now own his entire portfolio.

A combination of having a bit of initiative to actually track down a domain I really wanted and being in the right place, at the right time, ended up with over 1100 domains as a result :)

I will be looking to sell the majority of names once I finish sorting them all as there are some real crackers in this portfolio.

Congrats to you domainseller200. Intersting story. It just proves that if you REALLY fancy a domain you have go the extra mile and possibly meet face to face with the domain owner ... as you have nothing to lose and everything to gain which in your case is it was a whole portofolio ;)
Thanks for sharing.

All the best

Nice one Frank. Did you literally just turn up at his door, knock and say "I'm interested in one of your domains"? :)

Bloody hell, what's the next step? Hiring a hitman for those who refuse to sell? ;)

Great story though. Wish I could be one of your grandchildren :D

Yea that took some big balls turning up at someones house.

As they say he who dares :)

Sounds interesting. At first glance, I can't spot who it is you "scooped up" so it will be cool to see when you can post more info about the deal. Congratulations.

Nice one!

Sending PM with address; directions by road; nearest train station; can collect from Blackpool, Manchester and Liverpool airports ;-)

Interesting story. I'm not sure how I would react if a buyer turned up on my doorstep offering to buy something that I had not put on the market. Good to see how you get on once you review your new portfolio.

I'm guessing it was the mysterious Mr Brace??

Grant

Looks like it, just checked one I asked Mr Brace about years ago and it is now reg'd to Frank. Details changed 4 days ago

If you don't mind me asking, how did you both arrive at a value? And were the names parked, developed, own landers etc?

I think I may have helped by lowballing on his geo .org.uk on sedo
he probably had enough

Found a pic of Domainseller200 and his crew arriving at the house of the seller.

Sounds good! Congrats on going that extra mile... or extra 13 miles.

Thanks for all the replies everyone :)

Pretty much yes. It went kind of like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wNTIPaBbPI&t=32

And it went from there :)

Thanks :) Well seeing as I am only 33, that would be impossible/illegal (delete as appropriate)

Thanks Edwin - Someone in this post has spotted it :)

Thanks. They were on the market - lots of them were on Sedo, so I knew some were actually for sale.

Will email you now Grant :)

He had a price for the lot. I countered fairly and we both agreed on a price. Yes the majority were parked with Sedo.

Sod it I'll ask, what was the average price per domain ?

Sorry but it was a term of the sale that no prices were revealed. Even if I was allowed to reveal it, I am not sure I would anyway if I am honest.

Even if you said each name was given a value of £100 it will give you an idea of the scale of the deal though.

Haha thanks Guy ! Which one was it ?

So it had nothing to do with multiples of revenue - purely based on name 'gravity' at Frank Schilling calls it?
