I wish we could comment in sales threads, personally I find it difficult to hold my tongue (or finger) when the seller posts stuff like 'Some amazing domains for sale, grab them while you can' then posts names like legobread.info, and hatsforrabbits.net

If the seller hypes up sh*t names then we should be allowed to have some fun with them. :twisted:

It's like estate agents using the word 'stunning' when describing some shitty gaff just because they've got 250 quids worth of B&Q decking in the back yard and a central island in the kitchen...in fact tomorrow I'm going to pick one from rightmove.co.uk who uses the word 'stunning' and I'm going to ask them if they were actually stunned when they viewed the property. If they say no, I'll report them to trading standards; if they say yes, then I'll make an appointment to see the place, and if I'm not stunned...I'll report them to trading standards for false advertising.

Actually, I'll leave it until Monday - time with the family tomorrow, but I will do it.

I preferred it when you could comment in sales threads, it made the forum much more fun. Also, I would prefer it if people could comment in my sales threads, as it then bumps the post. However, some people can't take the comments, so it turns into a slanging match quite quickly. Still, a vote in favour of this motion from me.

imho - It should be allowed but it does occasionally require strong real-time, moderation. The gain would be we actually end-up with some great shit-cutters at work.

And I don't even read the sales threads - It makes my tongue bleed too much

The plus side is that it does give an instant domain Education, and sellers get a chance (which they normally post anyway) to support the domain.

I rarely comment in other peoples sales threads but I have noticed that some turn into a conversation between Acorners.

What does my head in is when people simply put " nice name good luck " if you're not buying then don't say anything.

I think it would help sales, as it would give people an reasonable idea of what their names are actually worth, rather than their inflated expectations, and cut down on people posting awful names for sale, as they will be ridiculed, this in the long run would make the sales threads more interesting and improve the quality of the names posted for sale.

When I joined this forum in 2005, I learned a hell of a lot from people posting in my sales threads, and from the appraisal section , but these days nobody gives appraisals, as most of the names are not worth appraising, and if people do appraise most don't like what they see, so just get shirty.

Some might say that a potential buyer could drive down the price of a name by devaluing it via their comments, but I believe that most established members on this forum are honest enough not to do this, and weed out those that did.

Of course there are difficulties with this, as alot of the time it is a matter of opinion, and the old 'It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it' but there are obvious cases where the names posted are awful and overvalued, and it's in these cases that I feel the member should be given a lesson in domain valuation.

Terrible idea. The slanging matches on Acorn get bad enough in the appraisal and other sections on occasion. Imagine if everyone put their 2p's worth into every sale thread as well. Utter chaos and anarchy!

On the other hand, perhaps there could be some sort of moderation-linked way of squashing the very, very bad names in sales threads. Not through ridicule, but through some kind of "jail" function for threads that for example would hide them from the "new posts" function if activated.

Agree. If your not going to buy or have a genuine interest in the domain, keep your nose out and thoughts to yourself (I know its hard sometimes ).

If people really have an issue with some of the domains in a sales thread then drop the seller a PM. It will get it off your chest - and doesn't have to be public.

With the stuff selling on Sedo these days for four figures and ok names not selling in the bargain bin it's so speculative who's right and who's wrong. I wish the seller luck and hope they achieve their price somewhere. It's a speculative market with no guide price - no wonder they take a chance.

Don't think I've seen any sales threads for £x,xxx or higher as of late (and the premium section is moderated anyway) - anything left isn't high priced and subjective.

I don't remember seeing a lot of overpriced drivel on here recently (?)
