I've just been playing around, and found that IDNs can be translated onto subdomains...
For example if you have wildcard DNS, IDNs will resolve on subdomains. Also you can have a sub-directory linked to a subdomain in it's punycode form.
Eg: £.somedomain.co.uk would resolve to xn--9a.somedomain.co.uk
This will work on all domains... Even those that don't normally support IDNs (like .uk)...
Could be useful for some people/sites...
