Has anyone UK based had any success in registering or acquiring an .ie domain name? There seems to be lots of hoops to jump through...
Or does anyone on here offer this as a service or can help me for a small fee+reg fee?

AFAIK you can't without explicitly proving a connection with Ireland - .ie is not an open registration like the UK namespace is.

Sidenote - Even with all the restrictions .ie is still more popular than .Irish.
