What do you think is the best image editor? Kindly specify its features?

PSP Picasa

I use Paint Shop Pro, have been for years. It's simpler IMO than Photoshop for image editing, resizing etc.

Google's Picasa has some surprising features for a free software. Basically it scans your PC for all images and lets you catalog them, but you can also use it to edit the images for red-eye and other filters.

Picasa is a great tool for finding the photos you forgot you had and putting them into some sort of logical order.

What is it you are actually looking to do with the images?

I'm a newbie in web designing and I really want to learn more about this. I usually use Photoshop because I'm familiar with its features. I have never tried Picasso yet..

Just a tip if your going legit with your software, goto college on a £50 course and buy Adobe software on a Student tip :)

Thanks for your tip. Though I want to learn it for free. Actually now, I'm reading some online tutorials for web designing.

I've always used Photoshop as...well...it's what I've always used.

Someone waxed lyrical to me about the speed and ease of Xara Xtreme, tried the demo but think I'm too old in the tooth for learning new stuff.

Photoshop just seems intuitive to me, although I did learn a hell of a lot when I did a HND in Digital Photography.

If you are serious about using it, it is worth taking a course, if only for the fact that having to do your homework focuses you on learning new things, not just something you need for a particular job.

I goto college whenever I can, most the programming languages and skills I have are self taught, so I picked up nasty habits, like in photoshop I barely used to use layers now I use layers in pretty much everything I do.

There is a video tutorial around thats like 50 hours of video on each thing all done at a pace you can follow along with, its damned good.
