Invent a new word or two short real words as domain name to rank at the top?

I would like to create a domain name with aim something that is most likely to be listed at the top by search engines when the domain name word is entered into the search box (without of course the www. or .com entered).

Which would stand the best chance of hitting the top of the search engine listing organically:

1. using a totally unique, invented word at a domain name that currently shows nothing when the word is entered into search engines.
OR
2. a shorter domain name consisting of two real english words together however currently comes up with hundards of popular search results when entered into search engines.
OR
3. maybe something else?

Google no longer supposedly considers exact match domains in the domain as being a ranking factor as this was massively abused a few years ago. However I think it would be better to get a domain related to the term rather than a 'brandable' (ie madeup) domain.
