Got a free app for the iPhone the other day for checking domain names

It lets you check domains in any extension and shows you whois data and everything else you need etc.

Pretty neat app for free

yea its a very good app, didnt realise at first but you can change the extension buttons in the settings.....ive got .co.uk first then .org.uk and .com

The basic code to write a whois app is very simple indeed. The problem is dealing with the iPhone SDK that sits on top of it all

i use an iPhone website (ie. sized to fit, iphone controls etc) that I built which uses EPP to check availability. I can then choose to register a domain if it's available. Keep meaning to build it into an actual app, but it works as is, so it's a low priority.

I just use normal web based interface on mobile... less restrictive than app's

What would people want in a domainer iphone app ?


Ablity to register domains ?
Perform lookups ?
list domains ?

Ive used domain scout for over a year now and the only problem is you cant do multiple searches, .com and .co.uk together etc

Don't know what algo they are using, but it does fail occasionally, search for alibaba co uk and its says available etc, so a multiple and more robust app would be great.

Maybe an option to register, with the user adding their registrars address.

You could always add aff links to these in the app.

eg I use 123 uk and fab for others, so links to these would be perfect.

Looks to me like it does a nameserver search to see if name is registered. so I guess if the nameservers are down it would show as available.
