Is a Plural .Co.UK Better Than A Singular .Org.UK

Hi There

As I'm new to this I'm just wondering if anyone has any guidance on whether a plural .co.uk domain is better than a singular .org.uk.

For instance if StudentLaptop is the exact word that gets searched on Google, but studentlaptop.co.uk is taken, which is the better option:

studentlaptops.co.uk, or

studentlaptop.org.uk

I'm not sure if there's a hard and fast rule about this but if anyone has any insight it would be much appreciated.

It depends what you want to do with the domain. If you just want to resell the domain, .co.uk is likely to be more valuable.

If you want to develop it, and are going to do purely SEO, then go by search volume on the keyphrase, and if that means you have to buy the .org.uk, then so be it. If you're only doing SEO it matters little whether you have the .co.uk or .org.uk as both seem to rank well.

If you are going to advertise the url, then the .co.uk becomes a stronger choice, because it has a better image for commercial purposes.

Non plural gets searched for more often than plural most times and as .org.uks get ranked easy enough then as long as you're willing to put some effort into the site then I would go for the non plural .org.uk.

studentlaptops.co.uk is way better than studentlaptop.co.uk (singular) and 100x better than studentlaptop.org.uk.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because the search volume is higher with the singular that it is a better/more valuable name.

I agree.
Depending on what you want to do with the domain, Adsense of affiliate links etc, then perhaps you need to look up what a "buying cycle" is.

If i was buying a laptop and i was a student, the plural would be a broad search at the start of my online research, and not near the business end of the buying cycle, I would unlikely have my wallet/credit card ready at this point.

That said, most affiliates have a 30 to 60 day cookie so you should mop up there, but my point is - traffic is not everything.
I have a domain - which if you saw the GKT stats you wouldnt bother, something like 430 local exacts pm, however almost 1 in 3 visitors convert to a sale.

As I see things, that is the way it works on a simple plane - the plural including the singular should work better - but if you are talking about, eg. acaiberry vs. acaiberries, it gets reduced to individual cases (in all senses of the phrase).

The smoker you drink, the player you get ... if Google would tell us, we would not need to guess!
