I'm merely pointing out Lee that these mystery players could be external, third parties, something the report doesn't make clear.

From experience with things like IR35, if the government want control of the .uk name space then I suspect they will take control regardless of what actions Nominet take.

Reading the massive negative response to anything secondary market posted on Nomsteer then it would appear that the average member is anti drop catching regardless of whether the drop catcher operates ethical catching policies or not.

Not discounting of course the possibility of a greater degree of mutual agreement on things between Nominet and the Government than first appears.

As for ethical catching, well that's why I highlighted the need for checks & balances. Enter Ofcom!

Wouldn't this just be an expensive equivalent of drawing the successful registrant out of a hat?

Not really, people could buy server rent at £200 a year, an ip address sat next door to what matters, £10 a month running fee or £10 a year, off it goes, 2 million people subscribed, would be better than the lottery. Would get complicated if assess too much, but if nom threw up a script out of their £8 million sitting there doing nothing paying the management bonuses money, then it's all really easy, could have 1 million drop catchers all using the same script tomorrow if they want a level playing field, no auction required, first come first served and if labour want to be real communists, they could give everyone a computer and give it them for free, where there's a will there's a way. I guess they aint really bothered.

Am I right in saying that I can still use the real time dac to scan a master list with 432,000 queries per day as I have diddley squat allowance on the delayed dac?
