Do keyword domains still hold additional value for SEO?

Yes, keywords make a big difference. Nowadays though it isn't going to be all that gets you to the top of search engines.

I believe so, I don't follow too much in the SEO, but my sites hold better in the google sea where they search term includes keywords from the domain than it does for terms not in the url.

Right of the TLD holds a lesser power but left of the dot still helps, unless your throwing buckets of cash at it.

I have the option to build a new geo targeted website on a domain I already own [geo]webdesigns.co.uk (inc .com) or purchase webdesign[geo].co.uk. The current owner wants low four figures.

As both domains are so similar and the market for the search term is used interchangeably I'm unsure if the domain purchase offers any advantages to my existing domains.

I'd be interested to hear feedback

Hell yes, they sure do.

Have you looked up the search volume of the 2 formats? Almost always you will find keyterm + location is greater than location + keyterm.

Three word domains just feel like a dated strategy to me. It's such a competitive market and it doesn't help that so many small businesses are happy with crappy low cost/low quality sites.

You're better off becoming known for something and trying to dominate a niche.

I wouldn't pay 4 figures either, and certainly not with the "s" on the end of "designs", it doesn't flow right, though may of course hold value in the context of your original question. Ultimately though, if you feel you can achieve more value from the purchase of the domain, then the price doesn't matter.

Judging these names based on DL may not be a good 'yard stick' .. But I agree like everything there are domains that work and many that really don't !
