Hi Baz

welcome to the forum, do you already have some names or are you looking to get started?

hi decon,

I already have two domains, but not wanting to do much with them. I am a new starter to this business and could really do with a walk through before i start buying and spending cash!!

I see some people have names parked, and kinda know how that works.

Whats confusing me is that some people have proper sites with things for sale on them. The items for sale are links-to actual sites, with shopping baskets.

This is where i lose it a little. How do the you get the links on your site and if its pay per click, how do you/the link site know you linked to them through your site?

if there thread on here you point me to/ or know could you please direct me.

many thanks

Hi killaclown55,

To put paid links onto your site you are looking at something called an affiliate programme, or associate programme. (or spelled program as term originated in US)

The most common is from amazon.com where you put their link on your page and if someone clicks through to amazon from your page and subsequently purchases a book then you get a snippet of commission.

The centre of the universe for the best affiliate programmes in the UK is the a4u forum on www.a4uforum.co.uk but to be honest it does not have too much on it for newer newbies without some searching.

That said, it is a fount of knowledge about the industry and reading that forum would give you some amazing tips once you know the basics.

In order to sign up for one of these things, typically you would register yourself with a "network" like affiliatefuture.co.uk or affilatewindow.co.uk or webgains.co.uk etc (listed on that forum).

You would then ask to be subscribed to one of the "merchants" that are listed there and who have banners and links to put onto your site. (some have a complete database of their products that you can take too).

They may choose to accept your application, this is usually instantaneous but some have stricter conditions, and depend on the quality and traffic of your site.

Once accepted, you take the code from the site (easy to follow instructions are available if you need them) and paste it onto your site.

That is basically all there is to it.

To get traffic to your site is a whole other game but that's not what you asked!

good luck

Hi killaclown55,

The industry can be a bit confusing at first, so your questions are perfectly normal. If you don't find the information you're looking for, please feel free to PM us or send an e-mail to [email protected]. Again, best of luck to you!

Jakob

sedo don't do affiliate programs as far as I know.

Hi,

With all of the knowledge we have amassed over the years, we are happy to help anyone with any aspect of the industry. We do not limit ourselves simply to the programs we advertise, and if someone has a question about anything domain related, we will do our best to answer them.

However, FYI:

So Baz, feel free to PM us or e-mail ([email protected]) if you would like.

Have a good day,

Jakob

That's just your affiliate programme, you don't offer a selection of others do you?

or do you?

Hi,

Sorry, thought that's what you asked about. Are you asking about a selection of other affiliate programs--what more would you like :) ?
