Quick question for Kindle owners.

If I have a book in a Kindle format on my PC that works on the Kindle Reader for PCs, can it be transferred to an actual Kindle?

Or do all Kindle books need to be downloaded via Amazon?

I am working on a Kindle version of Get Out While You Can, but want to make sure the formatting is right. Easiest way is to buy a Kindle for myself, but don't want to if it isn't possible to transfer files to it from my PC.

Not sure, it's not something I've ever had to do! Unfortunately I don't have a PC running windows, otherwise I'd have checked it out for you.

@Dave - thanks mate - I know it was a bit of a strange one!

@Sussexite - exactly what I needed to know. I was a bit worried it would look okay on a PC, but look different on an actual Kindle. Now I will be able to see for myself. Kindle ordered!

Hope you enjoy your kindle.

I'm really pleased with mine - a great bit of kit.

Does this mean its getting near?
Do you want it testing on an iPad ;)

Can anyone else vouch for the Kindle? I'm going to need one for my travels quite soon!

Seeing more and more people with them on the bus and train now tempted myself are they just a black and white screen though if so may look a budget android tablet and throw on the Kindle software.

Closer anyway :) May well be available sooner than May.

I hoped there might be a standard for e-books, but that´s not the case unfortunately. There is a Kindle app for the iPad, but if I get around to making an iPad specific version I will be in touch as I don´t have one of them either.

I love mine, I'm just jealous of everyone who's now getting the new version...

Don't tell me I have just ordered a Kindle that's about to be replaced.

Kindle 3G Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 3G Works Globally, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology

Is this the "new" one or about to become the "old" one?

I use the kindle app on the ipad anyway most of the time. Its great the way it syncs back to other devices using the same account.

That's the version I was referring to as 'new', if there's a 'newer' one I don't know about it. I got mine from the states before they were available here.

Check out: www.calibre-ebook.com

This software was the tipping point for me when I ordered my Kindle. It can store, sync and convert between all major ebook formats and also has a system to transfer news or blog posts to your Kindle. So you don't have to subscribe to publications through the Kindle system unless wireless delivery is a big issue for you.

Phew - just bought mine in December, very happy with it. Glad it isn't being replaced just yet.

Nope, no Kindle but I love my Elonex. I am not much interested in reading books "under the direct sunlight" ;) Elonex reads .epub and .fb2 out of the box though + colour screen + SD slot + movies (good player). So no B/W e-ink :D

I havent bought mince yet but will be. Is it possible to share ebooks? Was thinking we could set up some sort sf swap shop!
