Toshiba are tosh, battery is tosh, says 17% percent battery life and then 1 minute later switches off

performance is pants, wifi pick-up is dreadful and then the buttons are for the under 5's, apart from that it's fantastic

You could maybe try looking at high rated 4 out of 5 + laptops with lots of reviews at argos and amazon.

I would avoid HP, bunch of lying, excuse making feckers, I'm amazed they are not called 123-HP :p

I've always been a Dell business user for my servers back into the 90s, I'm a sentimental old fart, my very first server a Dell PowerEdge 1400SC is still in my office, still running on the original Raid 0 10k SCSI Raptors at a massive 18.1gb each, runs 24/7/365 and has done for over 10 yrs now.

I recommend Dell for this simple reason, when they screw up, and they do screw up, and unlike dell business, the consumer side you have to battle through foreign call centres but once you break through dell bribe you like nothing I've ever known.

Have to agree with the above HP are rubbish, steer clear. I am a fan of the Toshiba Satellite range, they are the only laptops I've bought that have lasted more than a year.

In the end, after a lot of trawling & comparing I've gone for this:

Was looking more for an i5 powered laptop, but this is a 2.6 i3 with a bit more memory and a dedicated graphics card so should be comparable. It's a 2012/13 discontinued model dabs are selling off through their outlet store. Got good reviews and seems pretty good for the price.

Not arived yet but will give a review when I've got it up and running as my new dev machine.
